Adam Hunt, DO practices Emergency Medicine in Saginaw, MI. He is core faculty with the Central Michigan University Medicine program. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine. Dr. Hunt also received his master’s degree in international health from the John Hopkins School of Public Health. He currently sits on the Board of the Michigan Osteopathic Association and is Past President of the Oakland County Osteopathic Medical Association.
Gary Roth, DO is a cardiothoracic surgeon and intensivist, having practiced in Lansing, Michigan for 30 years. Currently and for the last 5 years he serves as the chief medical officer of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association, Dr. Roth is board certified in cardiothoracic surgery, peripheral vascular surgery, and surgical critical care. He also served on the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery for 14 years.
Dr. Roth is a clinical associate professor in surgery at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Human Medicine, East Lansing. He is a fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, American College of Critical Care Medicine, and American College of Surgeons. He has also completed the American Hospital Association and the National Patient Safety Foundation Comprehensive Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship.
Over the past 30 years, Dr. Roth has given hundreds of presentations on multiple topics, including quality improvement, high reliability, and patient safety. His work has been featured in national publications, such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Critical Care, the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association and Circulation.
In 2018 he was a recipient of the Charles L. Ballinger Distinguished Osteopathic Surgeon Award from the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS). This award recognized his commitment to surgery, the profession, and patients as a surgeon, educator, and researcher. Recipients are selected by the ACOS Board of Governors.
Dr. Cory Rubin is a board-certified dermatologist through the American Board of Dermatology. He has been in practice since 2014. Dr. Rubin has opened a new practice, the Michigan Dermatology Institute, which is located in Waterford, Michigan. The core mission of his clinic is to provide trustworthy, high-quality, patient-centered, evidence-based care that is free of conflicts of interest for patients and their families.
Dr. Rubin received his undergraduate degree from University of Rochester and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He completed his medical degree at Sydney Kimmel Medical Collage at Thomas Jefferson University and also graduated Magna Cum Laude. For his residency, Dr. Rubin was University of Michigan trained.
Dr. Rubin was born and raised outside of Philadelphia but has called the Detroit suburbs home since 2007. He is happily married to his wife Barb with 5 kids and 2 dogs.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, ice hockey and traveling. He is also an Assistant Professor at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWBSOM).
Ewa Matuszewski is the CEO and co-founder of Rochester, Mich. based MedNetOne Health Solutions (MedNetOne), a health care management/physicians/provider organization offering infrastructure, clinical, and technology services to more than 900 private practice physicians and other independent healthcare providers, including behavioral health specialists. Under her direction, MedNetOne is a leader in advancing the development and implementation of the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and other advanced primary care initiatives involving physicians and their practice teams.
Throughout her many experiences in leading change, Ms. Matuszewski has promoted a vision of patient-centered health and a culture of organizational excellence. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, she was in the trenches with her physician members, tracking, providing, and distributing PPE packages and creating a back-to-work playbook and best practices training video that provided steps to safely re-open physician practices and were subsequently adopted for use by a variety of employers and workplaces throughout Michigan.
Ms. Matuszewski is a popular writer and nationally sought-after speaker on multi-disciplinary team based care, care management strategies following a population health approach, physician recruitment, incorporating technology into primary care, health policy analysis, Accountable Care Organizations, primary care practice management/government interface and quality improvement and validation within physician practices.
Ms. Matuszewski is also the founding Principal of the Michigan-based, IACET-accredited health care learning organization, Practice Transformation Institute (PTI), which designs, develops and delivers educational programs introducing the 21st century model of care to the health care community and medical practice teams.
Ms. Matuszewski is active in civic and professional groups including the Primary Care Collaborative (PCC) where she is an executive member, the BCBSM Stewardship Council, the BCBSM Organized Systems of Care Workgroup and the Polish American Congress. Locally, Ms. Matuszewski served on the undergraduate population health curriculum development committee at Madonna University and currently serves on the Oakland University School of Health Sciences Board of Advocacy and Resource Development.
Dr. Weingarden is Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She earned her medical degree from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in California. Dr. Weingarden completed her residency at Henry Ford Hospital and fellowship at Wayne State University. She received a Master’s in Public Health from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. She works at the Birmingham Maple Clinic where her areas of specialization include psychiatric evaluations and management of children and adolescents. This includes early childhood evaluations, disruptive behavior disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, thought disorders, and ADHD. Dr. Weingarden also works as an Oakland County school consultant, works once a month at a boys’ residential facility in Detroit and does some consulting work at a foster care home.
Dr. Heselschwerdt attended medical school at Wayne State University and completed her family medicine residency at UT Austin. She currently works in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition to seeing patients, she teaches second year medical students and precepts with McLaren's family medicine residency. She enjoys all aspects of family medicine but has a special interest in LGBTQ+ health. She provides primary care and gender-affirming hormone therapy for many transgender patients. She is also passionate about advocacy and community service and is a member of MAFP’s advocacy committee and a regular volunteer with Spartan Street Medicine.
Nicholas Poponea, DO, attended MSUCOM, graduating in 2014. In 2010 he received the Stephen's Award for excellance in medical technology which is given to the highest graduating GPA. He is a Pulmonary and Critical Care specialist at McLaren Oakland in Pontiac, MI Dr. Poponea has served as clinical faculty at MSUCOM since 2016. He is fluent in Spanish and enjoys mountain biking, rock climbing, traveling and homebrewing in his spare time.
