Session 1
General Approach to the Poisoned Patient and Neuromuscular Toxins
In this first session we will consider the general approach to the poisoned patient which is the key in all cases, remembering that most small animal poisons cannot be treated with specific antidotes. Find out what RSI DEAD is all about!
Key points to be covered:
General approach to the poisoned patient including aspects of decontamination
Intravenous lipid emulsion: what it is, when and how to use it
Rational approach to neuromuscular toxicity
Chocolate poisoning (surely not!)
Session 2
Common Nephrotoxins and What to Do about Them
Nephrotoxins are some of the more common poisons affecting both dogs and cats. In this session we will delve into some of the more common ones in detail before discussing the management of acute kidney injury (AKI) in general terms.
Key points to be covered:
NSAIDs and ethylene glycol in dogs and cats
Vitis fruits (grapes, raisins, etc.) in dogs
Lily plants in cats

Key points to be covered:
Paracetamol (acetaminophen)
Anticoagulant rodenticides
Xylitol
Baclofen
